The Albanese Labor Government Couldn't Care Less about WA Agriculture

The Coalition stands united to fight against the Albanese Labor Government's most disgraceful and cruel live sheep export ban.

We are proud on this side to stand in solidarity with Australian farmers and the agricultural sector in strongly condemning and opposing this destructive policy.

National Farmer Rally

Held on Tuesday 10 September 2024

I am so proud to have attended the Keep the Sheep Rally in Canberra recently.

Farmers’ voices are being drowned out by activists who want to shut down Aussie farms. This rally has sent a powerful message to decision-makers: You cannot take the people who feed and clothe our nation for granted. Farmers are the backbone of Australia, and their concerns must be heard and addressed. The future of Australian agriculture depends on policies grounded in evidence.

Thank you all who attended the rally, especially to the leader of the Opposition, Peter Dutton, for showing our WA sheep producers, shearers, transporters, livestock agents and stock feeders the respect they deserve and that they all matter.

I am not surprised that Mr Albanese was not brave enough to show up and face the damage he and his city centric Labor Government continue to create.

We are stronger than ever and we will continue to stand united and fight for this generation of WA farmers, and the next, and the next.

Together, we will Keep the Sheep and Save Our WA Farmers against this destructive Albanese Labor Government.

The day after the rally I gave thanks in the House to our WA sheep producers, shearers, transporters, livestock agents and stock feeders for travelling across the Nullarbor to attend. See my speech below.

What I want to do is recommit to my Durack community that my Coalition colleagues and I are committed more than ever to reinstating the trade, and we will always have your back.

You have to ask yourself: if it is sheep today, what is next? Cattle tomorrow?

People in my electorate are good farmers and pastoralists. They feed us, they employ us and they support our communities.

We are eternally grateful for them and we are fighting for them every day.

So I say to those opposite: don't dare try and pretend that the banning of live sheep exports is anything to do with animal welfare standards.

Our WA farmers just want to keep doing their jobs and feed the world. It is a noble occupation.
