I AM FIGHTING FOR A

JETTY FOR GERALDTON

A Jetty for Geraldton

Geraldton is a city on the rise. Known for its role as a key service hub for regional industries like mining, fishing, agriculture, and tourism, it also stands as the gateway to some of Western Australia’s most breathtaking treasures, including the pristine Abrolhos Islands. But as Geraldton grows—recently recognized as the fastest-growing regional city in the country—it’s clear that we must invest in infrastructure that reflects our city’s potential.

One project stands out: the proposal for a Geraldton jetty. Since its inception in 2021, this community-driven initiative has garnered overwhelming support, with over 7,000 locals rallying behind the idea. As your Federal Member for Durack, I have proudly championed this vision from day one, because it’s not just a jetty—it’s a symbol of opportunity, community, and growth.

Why a Jetty?

A jetty would be a game-changer for Geraldton. It would provide:

  • A Vibrant Community Space: A place for families to walk, fish, swim, and gather; for seniors to stroll and connect with the coastline; and for individuals with disabilities to access the water safely.

  • Tourism Appeal: Jetties across Australia are iconic attractions. From Busselton to Jurien Bay, they draw locals and visitors alike, becoming destinations that boost local businesses and create jobs. With Geraldton’s stunning foreshore as the backdrop, a jetty would be the icing on the cake for our city.

  • Economic Growth: The Geraldton Jetty would encourage tourism and strengthen local businesses. A recent council report described it as a “strategic infrastructure asset that drives economic growth.”

Momentum Is Building

The City of Greater Geraldton took a significant step forward when they committed $50,000 to an initial feasibility study for the jetty. Recently, the council reviewed the outcome of this study, the ‘Jetty Business Case Options Analysis Report’, which outlines three potential sites and estimates project costs ranging from $11 million to $24 million. I am pleased that this report highlights the jetty’s incredible potential to boost Geraldton’s liveability, promote physical and mental well-being, and foster community connection.
